Synthetic and Natural Materials on Canvas or Found Objects.
‘Fill’ is a series of works that investigate how physical discomfort and sensory overload shape my experience of home and surrounding environments. The project explores neurodiverse experiences with executive dysfunction, visualising how autistic overwhelm builds when routine changes or negative thought patterns disrupt a person’s sense of purpose and self-worth over time. The works embody my layered style of thinking and the constant, significant sensory stimuli I experience in the world.
Created on second-hand canvases sourced from local op-shops, each piece begins as a therapeutic process: poking holes into the fabric for a controlled, satisfying release. Using ink and watercolour, I layer patches of colour until a place begins to unfold. I then puncture the canvas with hundreds of holes and fill them with collected natural and synthetic materials that match these blended hues. The final pieces depict shifting aspects of my environment transformed into abstract, re-imagined spaces that are unsettling, deeply detailed, textural, and hauntingly beautiful.
